What is the standard mounting height for hallway wall lights?

Aug 05, 2025

According to the recommendations of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) and my country's "Architectural Lighting Design Standard" (GB 50034-2013), hallway wall lights are typically installed at a height of 1.8-2.2 meters above the ground. This range is based on the following considerations:

1. Functionality: A height above 1.8 meters prevents pedestrian head collisions while ensuring even light coverage along the pedestrian path.

2. Aesthetics: A height offset from the adult line of sight (average height of 1.6 meters) reduces glare.

3. Maintenance convenience: Light bulbs can be replaced or fixtures cleaned without a ladder.

Adjustments may be required in special circumstances:

- Low-rise hallways (such as loft apartments): The height can be reduced to 1.6-1.8 meters, but anti-glare fixtures must be used.

- Commercial spaces (such as hotel corridors): A height of 2.0-2.5 meters is recommended, with ceiling fixtures providing enhanced overall lighting.
